About the Team working on Dying For Help Mike Walter: Writer/Director/NarratorMike Walter is a four-time Emmy Award winner who launched his own production company after a successful, 25 year career as a broadcast journalist. In 2009, he left his job as a Monday through Friday anchor at the CBS station in Washington DC to launch Walter Media. His first project, the internationally, critically acclaimed documentary, "Breaking News, Breaking Down," premiered in April of 2009 at the DC Film Fest. In a short period of time it has won seven awards. At Sundance earlier this year, the film was selected by Moving Pictures magazine as one of the top documentary shorts of the year. The Documentary received the audience award at the Dark River Film Festival as the Best Film of the Festival. It was chosen as the best political documentary at the AOF International Film Festival in Southern California. The film is an official selection of the Cannes Independent Film Festival and was selected for the Short Film Corner at the Festival de Cannes. Walter has already won four Telly awards for his productions for the National Rehabilitation Hospital and for the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Before starting his own company, Mike anchored the Emmy Award-winning morning news at WUSA in Washington, DC for 6 years. Prior to that, he was the senior correspondent at USA Today Live, a network of 20 stations across the country. His reporting on 9/11 resulted in numerous profiles, including a piece in People Magazine, and appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, the CBS Early Show, CNN, BBC radio, CBC Television, and the RTF French Television Network. He was also featured in the highly acclaimed BBC documentary, "Clear the Skies." Walter is a gifted writer. He was a key contributor to two books on the 9/11 attacks, Covering Catastrophe and Broadcasting through Crisis. Kate Stafford: Production Coordinator/ProducerKate Stafford is a veteran broadcast producer and writer. Her first documentary, Our Vanishing Resources, examined the environmental harm clear cutting and strip mining created for the forest regions of Northern California. Stafford produced the documentary which first aired in Northern California on KVIQ. Later it was rebroadcast in Southern California where it won best documentary for cable television in the western region of the U.S.Stafford worked for a number of stations in Northern and Central California before moving east. Based in DC, she has been an integral part of Walter Media as a producer, production coordinator, and writer since its launch a year ago. Tim DeLuca: PhotographerTim is a multiple Emmy award winning photojournalist/producer/writer. He worked with Mike Walter at WUSA. At WUSA for more than 20 years he won numerous awards for work on documentaries, promotional and marketing spots, and news stories. He edited and shot segments of ?Breaking News, Breaking Down.? He is based in Washington, DC. |
